Reflections on a half year study at University of Toronto as a CSC visiting student

Abstract

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is an institution aiming to improve the training of creative and distinguished postgraduates and enhance the development of China’s higher education. From September 2019 to March 2020, Mr. Jinyang Jiao was sponsored by CSC to perform a half year research work at Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto. During his stay, he worked together with Prof. Viliam Makis on transfer learning and mechanical fault diagnosis. In the presentation, Mr. Jiao will give a brief introduction of University of Toronto and Prof. Makis’s group. In addition, he will share his research work and study experience in U of T.

Bio Sketch of Mr. Jinyang Jiao

Jinyang Jiao is a Ph.D. student in Professor Jing Lin’s group in the School of mechanical engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China. He was sponsored by the China Scholarship Council to conduct a half year research as a visiting student during September 2019-March 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Viliam Makis in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto. His research focuses on deep learning, transfer learning and mechanical fault diagnosis.
